This Assessment Booklet provides you with information and your assessment tasks for this unit. A requirement of your qualification, from which the unit of competence is taken, is the application of the concepts you have been learning.
The assessment activities are an important part of your course as they provide an opportunity to apply what you have been learning and they give both you and your trainer feedback on your progress.

Prior to Assessment
You must be advised of your rights before and after the assessments including the right to appeal.
Assessors must provide you with all relevant information relating to the assessments prior to commencement and of the appeals procedure that can be utilised if you wish to appeal against the assessment outcome or make a complaint.
Submitting Assessments
Each part of this assessment booklet needs to be carefully completed and you are required to attain a ‘satisfactory’ mark for each of the assessment activities. Full details of what is required have been detailed in instructions before each assessment task.
You must submit assessment tasks with the cover sheet provided at the end of this Booklet. You must attach one cover sheet per assessment upon submission, ticking the relevant assessment box. Ensure you sign the form after completion.
Assessments should be submitted on or before their due date. Extensions for individual assessment tasks may be negotiated in specific circumstances. Consultation on this must occur prior to the due date and extensions due to illness will require a medical certificate. Extensions will be confirmed to you in writing.
Plagiarism and Referencing
You are reminded that plagiarism will not be tolerated. Information, ideas etc. quoted or paraphrased from another source, must be acknowledged with “quotation marks” around the relevant words/sentences or ideas and cited at the end of the document. Sources of information, ideas etc. must be provided in alphabetical order by author’s surname (including author’s full name, name of document/ book/internet etc. and year and place of publishing) or may be included in brackets in the text.
The evidence you submit will be assessed and you will be given written feedback. Each assessment task will be marked as either Satisfactory or Unsatisfactory and once all assessments have been marked you will be given an outcome of Competent or Not Competent for the unit of competence. Upon demonstrating competence, you will be awarded this unit. If you are assessed as Not Competent, you will be given some suggestions for improvement and asked to redo your assessment.
In the event you are deemed Unsatisfactory, you will be allowed two (2) further attempts at an assessment within the timeframe of this course.
As part of the assessment process, you must abide by any relevant assessment policies as provided to you. If you feel you are not yet ready to be assessed or this assessment is unfair, you should be offered the opportunity to discuss all options that are available to you to complete the assessment.
Reasonable Adjustment
RTOs and Trainers/Assessors are obliged by law to make reasonable adjustment to ensure maximum participation of students with disability in teaching, learning and assessment activities. This includes:
• ensuring that course activities are sufficiently flexible;
• providing additional support where necessary; and
• offering a reasonable substitute within the context of the course where a student cannot participate.
Reasonable adjustment is defined in section 4(1) of the Employment and the Disability Discrimination Act as ‘an adjustment to be made by a person is a reasonable adjustment unless making the adjustment would impose an unjustifiable hardship on the person’. Reasonable adjustment as it applies to participation in learning and assessment activities may include:
• customising resources or activities within a training package or accredited course;
• modifying a presentation medium;
• providing additional support;
• providing assistive or adaptive technologies;
• making additional information accessible both before enrolment and during the course; and
• monitoring these adjustments to ensure that the student’s needs continue to be met.
An individual’s access to the assessment process should not be adversely affected by restrictions placed on the location or context of assessment beyond the requirements specified in the training package. Reasonable adjustments can be made to ensure equity in assessment for people with disabilities. Adjustments include any changes to the assessment process or context that meet the individual needs of the person with a disability, but do not change competency outcomes.
The assessment process must:
• Provide for valid, reliable, flexible and fair assessment
• Provide for judgement to be made on the basis of sufficient evidence
• Offer valid, authentic and current evidence.
Within this qualification are units of competency that form the basis of your assessments. These can be located in your Unit Outline Booklet. ASSESSMENTS FOR THIS UNIT
There are three (3) forms of assessment or evidence gathering methods for this unit of competency. You are required to complete and submit all the assessments.
Assessment 1. Written Questions
This assessment consists of sixteen (16) short to medium answers based questions to assess your knowledge of this unit. You must answer all questions. Most questions require short answers although some questions require a more detailed response. You should provide typed responses. You may use various sources of information including: text books, learning workbooks, other documents and the internet and must list your sources.
Assessment 2. Case Studies
Students are required to examine five (5) case studies and provide written responses to questions. Students must complete all parts of this assessment.
Students must record their answers in a separate A4 document and submit by attaching to their cover page.
Assessment 3. Portfolio
The student is required to develop a portfolio of documents demonstrating the planning, implementation and evaluation of workplace strategies designed to manage people performance.
A ‘Portfolio of Documents Checklist’ is provided to use to assess the student’s work so as to be able to provide feedback.
Assessment 1, Short Answer Question, will begin in Week 1 of the unit, due in Week 5 (First week of the new unit)

It is now a few months since you began Team Leader of this work group and you are asked by your manager to do a self-assessment of your leadership, your leadership style and the strategies that you use as part of leading the group.
a) Why might the Manager want this information and what might they be going to use it for?

Case Study 4
As part of the ongoing improvement of the organisation there is a review of all Policies and Procedures that happens in a cyclical process. This cycle occurs every 18 months. Each Policy and attached procedure is reviewed for currency, any changes in legislation, best practice and appropriateness for the organisation and the goals of the organisation.
You and your team have been asked to review a number of the Policies all which revolve around the sustainability of the workforce and the environmental impact of the organisation within the community.
a) Describe the process you would use to review these policies and procedures. How would you involve your team in the process and decision making?
b) After gathering your evidence, if you believed that some of the practices were not only below the industry standards but could quite possibly cause serious harm to either your staff or their clients, what process would you use to improve them?
c) Who would you enlist the help of to improve these practices and how?
d) If you were unable to find anyone internally with the level of knowledge or expertise to initiate, support or establish a new or updated set of policies, procedures or practices, what could you do to resolve this problem?
e) How could you make sure that the staff, as well as any other members of the organisation, were made aware of what was going on with the changes to practices? Explain the reasons you would communicate with each of the different groups?
f) How would you ensure that all staff adhered to the new practices once they were in place? How could you manage the staff who just wanted to keep doing what they had always done?

Case study 5
You have been appointed as the new manager at Pharmacy warehouse.
The new sales figures have just come in and they are not good. Feedback suggests that the products are not the cause of the problem, as the 12 national Pharmacy shops have advised that the range of products exceed their expectations in terms of quality and price and customers are happy.
In order to find a solution, you personally visit the warehouse team.
You notice that morale is very low. Several weeks ago, a member of their team was injured when a wall of stock fell on him due to a shelf snapping into pieces.
After WorkSafe Australia investigated it was concluded that the company hired to supply and build the shelving, did not fulfil its duty of care in supplying and installing fit for purpose materials. As a result, both the supplier and Pharmacy were fined. Staff have developed a negative attitude towards the organisation for hiring the company who erected the shelves.
5. Your first aim as the new manager is to suggest ways in which to change the negative attitude with a view to ultimately improving the poor sales performance.
a. Identify the stakeholders who may be able to assist you in changing the low morale of staff.
b. What staff development and training initiatives could you implement, in order to give the team, the skills to be more able to address issues?
c. What needs to happen to build the team members confidence and build morale?

After three months, two members of your team are not responding to the changes made internally and have not taken advantage of the opportunities to improve their negative attitude. Their negative attitude is also having an impact on the rest of the team.

It has been revealed that Pharmacy warehouse does not an adequate policy for the termination of employees.

Assessment 3: Project – Report

Part 1 – Report
This is a major activity. Complete the following and present it as a report, covering the following tasks.
You have recently been employed for Sunny Side Pizzeria to manage the Western Outlets. In recent months, sales have decreased. Your goal is to improve team performance and increase productivity by 5%. The areas in which performance needs to be increased is:
o In Attitude – Based on feedback, a high turnover in bad management who
promise and do not deliver, has led to a negative attitude that customers see.
o There are very high levels of absenteeism and resignations.
Using your knowledge on the subject of how to manage people performance, you are required to put forward a proposal in your report to meet this improvement.
You need to develop:
1. Work plans in accordance with the operational plans
2. Allocate work in a way that is efficient and cost effective, aimed at ensuring outcomes are achieved
3. Confirm performance standards, a code of conduct, work outputs – Develop at least one Individual work plan for the team (Appendix One)
4. Conduct a risk analysis and determine whether or not the goals are realistic (Appendix Two)
5. Develop a flow chart to reflect the communication process in the department (It must be two way)
6. Develop at least two contingency plans
7. Using the individual work plan you created in point 3, outline how you would measure performance?
8. Design a performance management system including a performance management timeline (Appendix Three)
o Develop procedures for any ONE of the following:
a. Handling poor performance
b. Coaching plan (Appendix Four)

e. At least one performance plan (based on Individual work plan in 3)

9. The team member in number 3 that you have developed an individual work plan for is not performing to the KPIs. Explain how you would consult with the team member and design a coaching plan.
10. Seek assistance from Human Resource specialists. Consult with them on your plan and write down any feedback they have provided you with. (Appendix Five) – In the response, address what actions you would take or why you would not use the feedback.
11. A member of your team’s attitude has become negative. Design a counselling session outline that you would perform for the team member. (Appendix Six)
PART: 2 – Presentation Task
